About Winery
Castello Luigi
Tessin, Switzerland
In 1988, Luigi Zanini acquired the property now known as Castello Luigi, located in the mountains of Mendrisio, south of Tessin, with a majestic view over Lake Lugano.
After obtaining the necessary permits, the old farmhouse was demolished on October 27, 1997. The new building emerged in its place, Castello Luigi, featuring an underground spiral cellar with a depth of 18.5 meters, ensuring that all winemaking processes could be gravity-driven, from grape pressing to decanting and bottling, without any mechanical intervention affecting the wine.
Castello Luigi is truly unique, extending across distinct terraces that capture the essence of the Tessin terroir. The first terrace, covering 1 hectare, is cultivated with the winery's sole white variety, Chardonnay. The second terrace, spanning 2 hectares, hosts Merlot, Cabernet Franc, and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes.
Each vineyard hectare is cultivated with care and respect, resulting in high-quality wines that narrate the story of the Mendrisio mountains, making Castello Luigi a distinctive producer.
