Château Pétrus is located in the Pomerol appellation of Bordeaux, France. With a small area of only 11.4 hectares, the estate is renowned for producing a 100% Merlot red wine. It is currently owned by Jean-François Moueix and his children.
Although Pomerol wines have never been formally classified, Pétrus is widely regarded as the most prestigious wine of the appellation. Originally, the estate comprised 7 hectares and was owned by the Arnaud family since the late 18th century. In the early 20th century, Madame Loubat acquired part of the estate, marking a new phase that elevated the reputation of Château Pétrus.
Jean-Pierre Moueix, an influential wine merchant, acquired a stake in the estate in 1945 and played a pivotal role in transforming Pétrus into one of the most prestigious wines in the world. Over the years, Château Pétrus has won numerous awards and is considered the "king of Pomerol," attracting attention from all over the globe.
