About Winery
Château Léoville Poyferré
Bordeaux, France
In 1840, Château Léoville Poyferré was born, a gem in Saint-Julien, emerging from the division of the Léoville Las Cases estate. In this chapter of history, the other part of the property went to the sister of Pierre Jean de Las Cases, who passed her share to her daughter, the wife of Baron Jean-Marie Poyferre de Ceres. Thus, Château Léoville Poyferré found its roots.
The 80 hectares of vineyards at Château Léoville Poyferré tell the rich history of the Terroirs of Saint-Julien, with gravel terraces and a sandy-clay subsoil providing a unique expression to the soil, nourishing the vines with the necessary richness. With grape varieties planted, including Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Petit Verdot, and Cabernet Franc, the vines have an average age of 38 years.
Château Léoville Poyferré has embraced sustainable practices for many years, a journey towards harmony with nature. Since the 2017 harvest, the property has held the Haute Valeur Environnementale (High Environmental Value) certification - level 3, the highest in this category. This achievement attests to the commitment to environmental preservation and the dedication to the terroir.
