Trévallon Rouge IGP Alpilles, Saint-Etienne du Grès, 2019

From a vintage of excellent balance, the 2020 Trévallon Rouge carries that quality directly into the glass. The nose is powerfully elegant: very ripe red and black fruit, white pepper, and liquorice with the characteristic perfume of the scrubland surrounding the estate. What impresses most in the 2020 is the harmony between power and freshness, a balance that points to a long future in the cellar. The tannins are very ripe and finely drawn, the palate smooth and long, the whole wine carrying a sense of certainty and completeness. It will keep for at least twenty years and is likely to reveal successive layers of complexity as it does.
