Château Palmer is among the most discussed wines in Bordeaux, its expressions sometimes surpassing the First Growths in critical esteem and collector desire. The 2017 is considered one of the wines of the vintage on the Left Bank: a tour de force of freshness and vibrancy in a year when patience in harvesting was rewarded with fruit of real quality. Composed primarily of Merlot and Cabernet Sauvignon with a small complement of Petit Verdot, the wine shows gorgeous aromatics: Morello cherry, blackcurrant pastille, wild blueberry, iron ore, dusty soil, wild sage, cinnamon toast, and graphite in a perfume of rare multi-dimensional beauty. The palate is medium-bodied with exquisitely ripe, fine-grained tannins and a compelling tension between the fruit and its structure. Long and minerally on the finish.
