Rising Stars, an alternative approach to wine investing
Rising Stars, an alternative approach to wine investing
July 8, 2024

Many collectors and investors look for established names and renowned brands when making wine investment decisions. However, another side to it is discovering and supporting rising star wineries on the path to becoming ‘the next big thing’ in the wine world.
We will explore the "rising stars" concept, highlighting domains such as Jérôme Galeyrand, Castello Luigi, Maison Charlopin-Tissier, and Gounel-Lassalle, our new Champagne partner.
What Are Rising Stars Wines?
Rising Stars are viticulturists who produce excellent wines but are still under the press's and final consumers' radar. Our job as wine professionals is to discover them and offer them to customers as an excellent potential investment with lower-entry perks. For example, the prices compared to the established wineries are accessible, but we already predict that prices will rise significantly soon. The first advantage is to be able to taste great wines without breaking the bank. The other is to get a good return on your investment in these wines. Previously, we already discussed some of the French rising-star wines.
Examples of Rising Star Wineries
Domaine Jérôme Galeyrand
Jérôme Galeyrand's first encounter with wine happened during two vintages at Domaine Alain Burguet in Gevrey-Chambertin. There, Jérôme decided to change the course of his life, enrolled in wine school in Beaune and acquired his first vineyard in 2002.
Cultivating his vines organically and sustainably only on 5 hectares, Jérôme incorporates biodynamic techniques, resulting in quality grapes that reflect his wine's character. As a result, Domaine Jérôme Galeyrand is a rising star of the Burgundy region, exceeding all expectations.

Castello Luigi
With less than 30 years since its first vintage, Castello Luigi is another property we should watch. Located in the mountains of Mendrisio, south of Tessin, Switzerland, Castello Luigi had its first vintage harvested in 1997. With about 3 hectares of vineyards, the property grows Chardonnay, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, and Cabernet Franc grapes.
The Castello Luigi 2019 wine, which you will find in our portfolio, received the Tre Bicchieri award - Gambero Rosso Guide and is a perfect example of a rising star wine as an investment option.

Champagne Gounel-Lassalle
The history of Champagne Gounel-Lassalle begins in the 1950s in the vineyards of Chigny-les-Roses in the Montagne de Reims region of Champagne.
The winery has become a reference in sustainable agriculture, using ecological and biodynamic methods to preserve the environment and grape quality, combining traditional and modern techniques. The family's vineyards are relatively small, only 3.6 hectares. They are located in Premier Cru and Grand Cru, renowned for their unique limestone terroir, which gives this rare champagne minerality and complex structure. The champagne already received exceptional critics’ scoring from James Suckling, 95 and 96 / 100 points. With its rich history, exceptional terroir, and innovative philosophy, the result is outstanding champagnes, and Gounel-Lassalle is on the rise to become an even more recognized name.

Maison Charlopin-Tissier
In the heart of Burgundy lies Maison Charlopin-Tissier. It was founded in 2013 by Yann Charlopin and Justine Tissier. With over 4 hectares of strategically selected vineyards in privileged locations of Burgundy, such as Côte de Nuits-Villages, Marsannay, Gevrey Chambertin, Morey-Saint-Denis, Vosne Romanée, and Pernand-Vergelesses, Maison Charlopin-Tissier offers a winery experience that follows organic and sustainable practices in a craftsmanship process that guarantees the expression of Burgundy terroir.
With limited production, demand for their wines is increasing, and each bottle of Maison Charlopin-Tissier becomes a true treasure. It's an opportunity for wine investors seeking authentic wines.
Why Invest in Rising Star Wines?

Following the safe path and opting for established brands may be ideal when considering wine investment options. However, investing in rising stars offers several advantages.
You can own excellent wines without investing too much capital and enjoy a good return over time while your portfolio grows in appreciation and value.
The potential for appreciation of rising star wines is remarkable. As these wineries gain recognition, it is common for their wines to become more valued in the market, providing substantial returns on the initial investment, making investing in rising stars an attractive strategy to diversify your collection.
Furthermore, investing in rising-star wines contributes to developing new producers and encourages innovation in the wine sector. Rising stars challenge already established regions and domains with new technology, often offering a fresh approach to addressing sustainability and harvesting techniques.
