Beschreibung

The 2017 vintage brought challenging conditions to Bordeaux, with spring frosts reducing yields considerably across the region, and Sociando-Mallet was no exception. Yet these constraints often concentrate what remains, and the wine that emerged from the summer's careful work is one of quiet, composed authority. Where the 2018 speaks in a full voice, the 2017 is more reserved, more Médoc in the classical sense: precise, linear, and sustained. The nose reveals blackberry, bilberry, and forest floor with a distinctive streak of cedar and wet slate, the whole thing opening gradually with time in the glass. On the palate, the wine is medium-bodied and well-structured, the acidity finely calibrated, the tannins supple without being plush. Notes of ripe currant and cranberry carry through to a tobacco-tinged finish of real mineral precision. For those who prefer their Médoc in a classical rather than a generous register, the 2017 offers something quietly authoritative.
