Château Palmer 3ème Cru Classé, Margaux, 2010

The 2010 Palmer exists in that rarefied space where finesse and power coexist without compromise. Opaque purple in colour with a vivid rim, the wine carries composed and elegant aromatics: fine cedar notes, mocha, and coffee grounds over a fruit base of bramble, raspberry, cassis, and Morello cherry. The palate is traditional in the finest sense, the tannins drying and grainy, the acidity fresh and sustaining, the fruit driving through a very long finish. Critics placed it at 96 points. It is a wine that rewards those who are patient enough to give it the time it asks for.
